Sipman.net, a different way of managing your network

Why should you considder Sipman.
  • It is open source. Simply get one of your old pc's and follow the manual to get your first (test) implementation.
  • It is an integrated network managent swiss-knive, giving answers to your main questions:
    • What (network) equipment do I have on my network? (All snmp manageable equipment is automatically identified)
    • What nodes are on my network and what has happened to this node?
    • To what switchport is an node connected?
    • Which ip adresses are in use on my network and when were they last active?
    • What key devices are currently down or have a failing interface?
    • What is the load on my network and can I get graph with history information? Device information like the system load, interface load, volume usage, etc, are monitored based on snmp, storing data in the rrdtool. Configuration of these values, based on automatical discovery.
    • What dns entries are in use on my network?
  • It has an integrated dns/dhcp configuration tool, automatically assigning fixed ip adresses and dns names, and cleaning of the database. If a node moves to a different subnet all definitions are transferred to the new ip adress.
  • And much more...........
The basic idea is to have the management station do all the hard work, like discovering your devices, generating graph definitions etc, updating your dns and dhcp tables etc. All you need to do, is make sure Sipman has snmp access and start troubleshooting.
